7. You wait forever, and then 3 come along at once...

Since I get to do a fair amount of travelling, I guess I might have some words of wisdom for the less-frequent traveller. I think that I'll start with the following:

1) When passing through Security at the airport, your aim is for speed. End-to-end as fast as possible. This means you need to pay attention to the signs, the pictures and the endlessly-repeating-herself woman about what to do when you get to the scanners. Perhaps even, as you stand in the loooong queue for the scanners, you might consider preparing yourself (take off jacket, remove laptop from bag, etc, etc). That way people won't want to kill you when you get to the scanners and suddenly start unpacking, and unpacking and unpacking...

2) Again, your aim at Security is speed. If you find yourself standing on the air side of the scanner, collecting your things from your 4 trays (slowly - put on jacket, put things carefully and slowly back into bag, take other items slowly from the little tray one at a time...) and wonder at the rather grumpy-looking queue standing behind you watching your every move... It's because you're sooooooo slow! And no one else can get their stuff while your trays are still on the rollers. And it doesn't matter how much you smile politely at the crowd (yes, crowd!) behind you - you're in the way and we don't like you!! Completely oblivious woman, you know who you are! Well, apart from being completely oblivious...

3) You're on the plane. The doors are being opened - you have to grab your bag and "deplane". Now, nobody is expecting a Flash-level of speed, but prompt and swift exiting of the plane is always appreciated. If you find yourself standing in the aisle, blocking everyone else, still collecting together your 400-million different bags (I thought that there was a 1-bag limit!) from the over-head lockers.... And you observe that the entire front-half of the plane has already disembarked in the time that you've taken to stop the back half of the plane exiting... Clue: you're taking too long!!! Far, far, far too long! There are people on the plane planning your demise in great detail! And, worst of all, you would probably have got off the plane just as quickly if you had sat down and let everyone off first!

Arrrrrgh!!

Apart from that travel's a doddle, really... And such fun...
