89. Rampaging Easter bunny

I am still in the land of the living... Or at least, the land of the used-to-be-living-but-now-lurch-about-with-a-burning-desire-to-eat-your-brains. The plague continues to blight my life - I go to bed each night filled with super-perky hope that tomorrow I'll wake up and be a real person once more... And each horrible morning (all mornings are horrible) I awake to the realism that is life as a zombie.

And the worst thing is that - unusually - my nose has not turned red. Normally I'm embarrassing Rudolph with how non-red his red nose is, but at the moment my nose looks totally normal (while being too tender to touch). And so I have to TELL people that I'm ill (although personally I think that the endless sniffing, nose-blowing and hacking cough really ought to speak for themselves). Oh, the shame...

In better news, I have finally managed to win more than £2.50 in the lottery. Yes indeedy, you are now looking at the proud winner of a whole £5.70!! Form an orderly queue, please - it's so unseemly to push.

In somewhat even better news, tomorrow is Easter Sunday. Which means that Lent is over. Which means that I can eat chocolate once more. Oh, yes indeedy, chocolate is back on the menu... There is a box of After Eights in my fridge which has been taunting me for some weeks now: little does it know that tomorrow is open season on After Eights. I shall try to practise restraint I shall take at least a moment to savour the thought of the After Eights before consuming them with malice aforethought.

My precioussssssssss.....

88. The Black Death

I have been cursed with the plague. The suffering is immense. There may be some out there who would try to convince you that this is but a mere cold... But they are deluded. 'Tis the plague, and no mistake!

Having dragged myself to work today (it's the END OF FINANCIAL YEAR!) and spread the plague about a bit... I have just spent half an hour trying to convince myself that I can still go to the gym and get some cycling miles in...

As I lurched around the front room, wrapped up like the Michelin man in 3 layers and a blanket (just to keep the chill off), dripping right and left, moaning every so often (after a particularly strong coughing jag), flushed with fever... It occurred to me that turning up in the gym looking like an escapee from a zombie movie, spreading plague before me, might not be the best way to endear myself to my fellow gym-goers. Or, indeed, to keep a low profile around HM Constabulary...

So I remain at home, in front of the TV (very confusing programme on - or I might just not be tracking too well in my zombie state), sniffing dramatically every so often.

You never know, tomorrow might bring a miraculous recovery and an end to zombie-hood!

Half-dead as I am, it's good to know that I can still dream...

*sniff*

87. Friday night skive

Friday nights have become a bit of an issue in the old training world.

What mostly happens is that I end up having to do something - e.g. a 5 mile run - in order to keep up with the constantly-revised plan.

Then I decide to go to the supermarket on the way home from work. And I buy myself food, including post-run snacks/treats (to inspire me to go for run).

When I get home I have to have a seat to mentally prepare myself for the exercise ahead... During which time I internally complain about being tired, being hungry, and it being cold. Which normally escalates into ravenous hunger and overall feebleness which means that I cannot possibly leave the house and do some exercise...

So I stay in, watch some TV, and eat all the post-run snacks because that's what I feel like doing (thus defeating any benefit form whatever exercise I have actually managed to do during the week)....

Overall, if I had a life, this would not be a problem, as I would not be scheduling exercise for a Friday evening... But either way, I really do have to treat Friday (evening at least) as a rest day since I would appear to be incapable of actually doing any exercise then anyway...

We'll see if that resolution lasts through the next week....

*sigh*

86. Hobbitses

Another day, another 50% of planned sporting activity.... And then a ridiculous level of hunger which eventually led to the rare luxury of 2 dinners. Which will ultimately require more exercise to be done, I'm sure... *sigh*

Anyone would think that I wasn't really into this sporty active healthy lifestyle stuff.... Hmph...

While all this cycling in the gym is undoubtedly better than not cycling at all, it doesn't detract from the fact that at some point Aggie and I are going to have to leave the house. Now, Aggie was bought in 2007, which means that she's well established in her role as interesting furniture feature in my house, rather than one of those "outside bikes" that you hear about.

Nonetheless, outside we will have to go. Not least because I cannot justify buying a new bike until I've actually used the one that I've got (and probably more than once). And, I am reliably informed, a new bike I must have if I am to get through 100 (actually 102!) miles in under 9 hours... Aggie not quite being to sporting spec, apparently...

Ah, more kit. This random ridiculous challenge for charity lark is ruinously expensive stuff!

85. Cycling starts here!

Slightly concerned that the running is taking over world, and the world should now be all about the cycling...

Possibly because the reaction to Challenge 5 to date has been horror and "you're going to die!" type statements...

So I got up early this morning and toddled off to the gym to get some cycling in before work. Ooof.

Actually, the plan was to do cycling before work, and then go for a run after work... 50% success is better than none at all, though, eh?! Inherent laziness continues to plague the training regime...

At some point the agoraphobic bike (which needs a name - it's going to be Aggie, really, isn't it?) and I are actually going to have to leave the house. Together. At the same time. And do one of those "outside" cycles...

But not today (thank God!)!

84. Sh'Bam!

For those desperate to discover how am I am to be helping the police with their enquiries...

I'm not. Apparently one of my neighbours "had some things taken from her house on Tuesday" (interesting phrasing), and the police were hoping I might have seen something. I pointed out that I had been approximately 3-400 miles away at the time for (and since Sunday). Thank you very much and goodbye...

Although, this latest drama does leave me feeling somewhat like I'm living in the Wild West now. Which I am not averse to, having been raised on a non-stop diet of John Wayne movies (ah, The Duke - always so reassuringly aggressive and just plain RIGHT. Gosh darn it!). I am contemplating investing in a duster and Stetson, just in case...

Otherwise, I toddled off to Sh'Bam tonight. Which was... Interesting. If you think about going to a dance class where everyone already knows the steps and so they don't teach anything but expect you to keep up straight away... And there's a great amount of perkiness going on... It's kind of like that... But it was fun, and is a bit different from everything else I'm doing and so I'll probably go back next week... Although I do draw the line strenuously at perky.

Shucks, that's just the way it is, ma'am.

83. Echoing silence

Mini update: not much happened last year apart from lots of walking (on average 1.5 miles per walk - so that's a lot cumulatively, rather than anything useful!).

Anyway, as we know, I've been trying to keep a low profile for a while now. Nothing happening here, nothing to see, move along now...

Came home today after a few days away travelling to find a Police message card (it's a bit like a Post Office "we called when you were out" card, but yellower. And less related to post/packages, I assume...). Gah-hah!

Apparently they have enquiries and I may be a possible witness.... Now, since I've not actually seen anything sufficiently interesting to warrant a police enquiry in some significant time, I suspect that this will be a short and fruitless conversation...

But still - slightly anxious at being forced to put my head above the virtual parapet.
